Definition<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Beneficiation is a concentration process that separates valuable minerals from those with low commercial value. In the case of low\u2011grade iron ores, the concentration process is applied to separate iron minerals such as hematite, magnetite, and goethite from siliceous minerals such as quartz.<\/p>\n

Project Objective<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To increase iron ore reserves for more than 40 years through beneficiation processes applied to low\u2011grade ores (below 55% Fe), removing silica (SiO\u2082), phosphorus, and other impurities. Additionally, the project enables the rational exploitation of high\u2011grade reserves and guarantees supply to the national iron and steel sector.<\/p>\n

    Processes<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Gravitational Concentration<\/strong> Commonly applied to iron ores, this method is based on gravitational and centrifugal forces resulting from differences in specific gravity between iron minerals and quartz.<\/p>\n

    Magnetic Separation<\/strong> Based on differences in magnetic susceptibility between iron minerals and quartz.<\/p>\n

    Flotation Concentration<\/strong> This process modifies the surface activity of minerals through chemical reagents. Flotation is performed using air bubbles; reagents render minerals hydrophobic or hydrophilic. Hydrophobic minerals (silica) attach to air bubbles and float, while iron minerals sink, facilitating separation.<\/p>\n

    Project Impact The Concentration Plant project will positively impact the quality of life of local residents by improving the availability of electric power and water services, as well as supporting the development of housing, urban infrastructure, roads, and services required during construction and operation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    Ferrominera has already developed associated works for the Concentration Plant project, including a water intake and treatment system supplying potable water to 30,000 residents; a 115\u2011kV power line from the Guri hydroelectric complex; and the reopening of the Altamira deposit and the railway line.<\/p>\n

    These works represent an approximate investment of US$ 53.5 million.<\/p>\n

    In summary, the Iron Ore Concentration Plant is an initiative that will generate employment, strengthen agricultural development, and reinforce supply to the steel and direct\u2011reduction industries, ensuring the long\u2011term viability of a sector as strategic to the country as the national iron and steel industry.<\/p>\n
